Who Is a Candidate?
  • Patient with a sagging forehead or brows that hang too low and too close to the eyes.
  • Patients with deep vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frown lines).
Intended Results

A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

Procedure Description
  • The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Several short incisions are placed in the hairline. The operation is done using an endoscope (a narrow hollow instrument with a fiber optic light source and camera) through which the procedure is done with small special instruments.
  • The forehead skin is lifted and repositioned. The muscles that cause frown lines are weakened.
    The repositioned muscle and skin is then anchored to the skull bone, either with a screw or via a tunnel in the bone itself.  The small incisions in the skin are then closed.  Usually,  no dressing required.  Some swelling is expected in the forehead region and around the eyes, which usually subsides in about three to four days.
How Long Does The Surgery Take?

The procedure usually takes about one and a half hour. Another two to three hours in the recovery room, and then the patient can go home with follow-up instructions in the clinic.

Recovery Time

Physical recovery only requires a day or two of rest at home.  Bruising and swelling may take about three to four days to subside.  Over all one week is sufficient for recovery.

Is It Painful?

This procedure actually has minimum pain. Occasionally, there may be some headache or mild pain, which can easily be controlled with Pain medication.

How Long Does The Result Last?

Thy effects of this procedure are long-lasting.  The results may last seven to 10 years.

What Are The Complications?

In experienced hands the procedure goes quite smoothly, and the chances of complications are minimum.  Potentially complications however, are numbness in the scalp, potential of injury to the nerve raising the eyebrows and asymmetry.  Even if there is injury to nerve, it corrects it self, with time.  The problem of asymmetry is usually correctable.
