Hair loss is an embarrassing condition that can severely affect a person’s confidence and self-esteem. The emotional aspect of living with hair loss is usually very challenging and even depressing. In fact an interesting study found that men are more concerned about losing their hair than their minds.
Despite the significance of hair for men, what to do if hair starts falling off rapidly?
Fortunately, there are many hair fall treatment in Abu Dhabi and elsewhere available today that can help fix your scalp and make you regain your lost confidence.
Let’s show you some of those treatments!
If your hair loss is due to an underlying medical condition, over-the-counter drugs can help in slowing the hair loss and promoting hair growth.
Two effective and approved drugs for hair loss are:
- Minoxidil: Minoxidil is an over-the-counter drug in the form of liquid that you massage into your scalp twice a day. With regular use of the drug, users experience a re-growth of their hair, a slower rate of hair fall or both. The results of Minoxidil become the most obvious after 16 weeks of usage. The user is usually recommended to continue using it to retain the results.
Minoxidil is safe for both, men and women, however, there can be some side effects of the drug including scalp irritation and irregular heartbeat.
- Finasteride: This is another prescription drug that is effective in slowing hair loss and encouraging new hair growth. It comes in the form of a pill that has to be consumed daily. It, however, is only recommended for men.
Using Finasteride has been found to interfere in men’s sex drive by reducing their libido. It also increases their chances of getting prostate cancer.
One of the safest and most effective treatments for hair loss is surgical hair transplant.
Surgical hair transplant is the restoration of hair on bald patches of the head, and is done mainly through two techniques; Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
Both of these techniques involve removing hair follicles or grafts from the back of the head, that is more resistant to hormonal changes, and then transplanting them in frontal areas of the head where baldness have occurred. This causes the transplanted hair to re-grow naturally on the bald patches.
The primary difference between the FUT and FUE technique is that the FUT method involves cutting an entire strip of scalp from the back of the head before transplanting it back in a bald patch. The FUE technique, on the other hand, pulls out individual hair follicles before inserting them in the bald areas of the head. This technique is usually lengthier and more complex.
A Scalp Reduction is a surgical procedure that removes areas of the scalp affected by alopecia (also known as spot baldness) by reducing the area of bald skin. It involves stretching the healthier parts of the scalp and repositioning them to cover the bald spots. This results in reduction of the areas without hair and makes baldness easier to manage.
