Breast Augmentation

Short Scar Breast Augmentation

Short scar Breast Augmentation is the goal when you are planning to have Breast enhancement. Initial breast augmentations were performed by a fairly large incision to accommodate the size of the implant.

As the strength and quality of the implants improved, it became possible to squeeze the silicone gel implants through smaller wounds—thus shortening the scars.

The other fact is that most of the Breast Augmentations were done through the breast crease under the breast. Surgeons were using very long scars for breast reduction and with that habit the practice continued.

There is a big difference between a Breast Reduction Procedure and a Breast Augmentation procedure. Patients with very large breasts are uncomfortable with the size and they do not mind the long scars as they feel the relief after the weight is taken off their backs and shoulders.

Breast Augmentation patients on the other hand are purely cosmetic patients—if they could, they would not want to have any scare whatsoever. Their objection to long scars motivated the plastic surgeons to consider making the scars as short as possible.

The scars can really be very short with saline implants because the implant can be rolled like a cigar and places in the breast pocket before it is filled with a connecting tube. The tube is immediately removed after the implant is filled.

As mentioned above silicone gel implants are sturdier and of better strength now and they can be squeezed through relatively small incisions in the axilla (armpit), under the breast crease or around the areola.

Short scar Breast augmentation is the popular method of breast augmentation at our clinic. Our surgeons are aware of the need to keep the scars as short as possible for invisible scars.

The choice of the incision site can be discussed at the time of consultation.
