Face lift & Neck Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck. Patients who have the appearance of jowls and deep creases between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth. Patients who have developed facial and neck wrinkles. Patients who believe that they lack youthful chin and neck contours. Patients who think they have a tired facial appearance.

INTENDED RESULTS ?

A more rested and youthful contour to the face and neck.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION ?

Facelifts range in size from "mini" to "standard" & "SMAS" (where underlying muscles are tightened) depending on location and extent of skin and muscle laxity. The operation is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia. Incisions are made within the hairline (or along the hair margin) above the ear, extending down around the lobe and ending in or below the hairline behind the ear. The subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened, the facial skin is re-draped the and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure can take anywhere from two to four hours, again depending upon the nature and extent of a face lift. Sometimes other procedures are added, and in that case, the time may be even longer. Other procedures, usually combined with the facelift are Blepharoplasty, forehead lift or liposuction, under the chin.

RECOVERY TIME ?

There is minimal, recuperation time, however there is swelling and bruising of the face and neck areas, which prevents people from resuming their day-to-day activities or go to work. Swelling and bruising, usually subsides in about a weeks time, and at that point with some makeup, one can resume daily activities or work.

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

Usually about a week to 10 days is all that is required. If the work does not require interaction with other people than it can be resumed in two to three days, for example, working on the computer at home.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

The results are expected to last about seven to 10 years. A healthy lifestyle, protection from Sun, avoidance of smoking and proper skin care can help the results to last longer.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

Facelift and neck left are generally not very painful. Minimum to mild pain is expected, which is easily controlled by pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Facelift and neck lift surgeries require experience, and expertise in the area of cosmetic plastic surgery. Proper selection of the patient, careful preoperative evaluation and instructions to the patient are important in order to avoid any possible complications. Fortunately, common complications are minor in nature and can be easily taken care of. Other than swelling and bruising. There is a possibility of a hematoma and seroma formation, nerve injury and skin loss. It is imperative that preoperative instructions, be followed carefully, medications, which may cause bleeding must be stopped, prior to the surgery, and the patient must quit smoking four to six weeks before the surgery.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Eyelid Surgery

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Patients with excessive, sagging or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin. Patients with excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision. Patients with excessive or unsightly lower eyelid skin. Patients who have lost their natural upper eyelid crease. Patients with puffy pouches of fat in the upper or lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. Widening of visual fields if excessive upper lid skin has partially blocked vision. The removal or erasing of wrinkle lines, and softening of deep wrinkle lines.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids (trans-conjunctival approach). This technique does not involve an external incision or scar, unless some excess skin needs to be removed as well. When excess skin needs to be removed from lower eyelids, an incision is made just beneath the eyelashes. When excess skin needs to be removed from upper eyelids, the incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids. Excess fat and skin are removed.

DURATION

Eyelid surgery may take about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hrs for both upper and lower eyelids.

ANESTHESIA

This surgery can be performed under local with sedation or general anesthesia. Upper Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia alone.

RECOVERY

For the first few days, there is swelling and bruising around the eyes, most of which is gone by the end of the first week. At this time with some make up and sun glasses you can go out in public.

SCARRING

Scarring is usually minimal and barely visible, at occasion the lower eyelid surgery can be performed from behind the eyelid without leaving a scar on the outside.

COMPLICATIONS

Proper selection of the patient, careful planning, finesse and meticulous execution, are paramount in eyelid surgery. All these steps are important in avoiding complications. Which are infection, bleeding, scarring ectropion and entropian (outward and inward pulling of the eyelids respectively) and in small number of cases impairment of vision. Sometimes itching, dryness or tearing may happen, which is usually temporary.

COST

The Cost includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with a sagging forehead or brows that hang too low and too close to the eyes. Patients with deep vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frown lines).

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Several short incisions are placed in the hairline. The operation is done using an endoscope (a narrow hollow instrument with a fiber optic light source and camera) through which the procedure is done with small special instruments. The forehead skin is lifted and repositioned. The muscles that cause frown lines are weakened.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

The patient goes home with head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed on the first or second day after surgery. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures or staples are removed within 10 days. Most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days.

INSURANCE GUIDELINES

This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.

OTHER OPTIONS

Additional procedures that may enhance the result are lower and/or upper eyelid lift, face lift, or other facial procedures or implants.

APPROXIMATE FEES

Dr. Bokhari's charges are affordable please schedule a consultation so that your specific needs and final charges may be evaluated. One of the most subtle but important procedure to correct early signs of aging in relatively younger group of patients.

Rhinoplasty

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with an abnormal appearance of the nose as a result of birth defects, injury or disease. Patients with a nose that is cosmetically unattractive or does not "fit" with other facial features. Patients with a nasal obstruction due to a deviated nasal septum (divider between the two sides of the nose).

INTENDED RESULTS ?

A more attractive nasal shape. A nose that is more proportionate to other facial features.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION ?

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. If a simple fracture or dislocation is present, manipulation of the nose with instruments may restore the nose to the pre-injury appearance with no cutting or incisions. If a complex fracture or dislocation is present, a more formal operation may be required to solve the problems. In Septoplasty, which is performed on the patient with a deviated septum, the crooked septum is straightened through incisions inside the nose. In standard Rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils. The nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped to improve the external contour. In open Rhinoplasty, which is frequently used for difficult or larger noses, one external incision is made across the columella (strut between the nostrils). Bones, cartilage and soft tissues are reshaped under direct vision. In tip-plasty, which is done when only the tip is abnormal, either a standard or external approach is used to modify the shape. Large nostrils may be reduced through tiny incisions at the outer base of the nostrils with either type of Rhinoplasty.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The surgery can take from 1 - 1 1\2 hrs depending on the nature and complexity of the procedure

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

Most of the patients are physically fine to be able to move around and perform sedentary work, however there is some swelling and bruising around the eyes and there is a splint on the nose which prevents people from going in public. Splint is removed in 1 week and most of the swelling and bruising is gone by that time as well.

DO YOU DO COMPUTER IMAGING ?

Yes, we do computer imaging and it is a good way to get an idea about how the nose will look after the surgery. However, it should be understood that computer image is just a guidelines of what can be accomplished from the surgery. It cannot be guaranteed that the result will be exactly be the same as generated by the computer image.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Some bruising and swelling are expected, they subside in two weeks. The risk of infection, bleeding and scarring are minimized with careful planning and proper execution of the procedure

COST ?

The cost depends upon the amount of work need and the fees includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free computer imaging, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Hair Transplant

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Hair loss is a fairly common problem. Any one who is concerned about hair loss or significant thinning to the extent that the scalp is visible is a candidate for hair transplantation. There are some exceptions however, certain diseases or medications can cause temporary hair loss, and in a situation like this the root cause has to be addressed. Some patients with unrealistic expectations should be guided about the actual outcome. Future considerations in terms of further loss of hair have to be kept in mind and the procedure planned accordingly.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia under sterile conditions. Once the anesthesia is administered is pain free. First a strip of skin is removed from the back of the head and the area where the skin is removed from is closed with sutures. The hair in the back of the head covers the sutured area and is not visible to any one looking at the patient. The mini and micro grafts are prepared form the skin strip very carefully. This takes about two hours; during this period the patient can relax or watch a video etc. Then small slits are made in the scalp and the grafts are inserted. No dressing is required.

TIME OFF FROM WORK / RECOVERY

Physically there is no recovery time required. However, some swelling can occur around the eyes and forehead region, which subsides in 3-4 days.

WHEN DOES THE HAIR START TO GROW

Generally, the hair begins to grow within three to five months after the procedure and the number of new hairs will continue to increase for the next eight or nine months with a proper care. Once the growth begins the hair grow at a rate of approximately half an inch a month.

IS THERE ANY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED

Transplanted hair is your own natural and growing hair, other than regular hair cuts and shampoo there is no further maintenance.

DOES IT LOOK NATURAL

The modern technique of hair transplants with mini and micro grafting gives the transplanted hair a virtually natural look. The old technique of punch grafting which gave a "Barbie doll" or "bushy" appearance is not practiced these days. You will be able to see some of the before and after pictures to get the proper perspective.

PAIN

Pain is minimal. Occasionally people get a headache - pain medication however is prescribed to make fast surgical recovery comfortable.

COMPLICATIONS

Numbness; occasionally some scarring; temporary hair loss of the existing hair due to shock. Ingrown hair and cyst formation can happen

WHAT OTHER AREAS OTHER THAN HEAD CAN HAVE HAIR TRANSPLANTS

Hair transplantation can now be done for many areas including eye brows, moustache, beard, burn areas, eye lashes and other areas where hair transplantation is needed.

COST

The procedure can vary per session. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure can be performed either through an incision inside the mouth or through an extern of incision under the chin. Sometimes, the procedure can be performed even under local anesthesia, but usually, local anesthesia, along with sedation is better tolerated. A gentle compression dressing and they restricted diet containing mainly in liquids for the first two days is a required. Appropriate size implants are essential to the success of the procedure. Commonly available implant materials are either silicone or polyethylene. Polyethylene has the advantage of sticking to the bone, compared to silicone, which may have some mobility when pushed manually.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure takes approximately 1 hour to one hour and a half.

RECOVERY TIME ?

Physical recovery is quite quick, and most of the day to day activities can practically be resumed the next day. Some swelling and bruising is expected, but does not prevent the patient from working or performing other activities.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

Results of this procedure are permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

This is not a very painful procedure, although some pain and discomfort is expected, for the first 2 or 3 days which is easily controlled by pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Potential complications of infection, scarring, bleeding, extrusion and asymmetry can be avoided with a careful evaluation and execution of the surgery.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Cheek Augmentation

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Some people have a shallow cheek prominence or they may have a narrow face. Aesthetically, a desirable feature of the face is an oval appearance, and the cheek prominence well defined for an aesthetic look. So in order to correct shallowness of the cheek prominence in a profile, or to create an oval appearance of the face, cheek implants are needed.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Cheek implants are placed through a small incision inside the mouth. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. General anesthesia can also be used. Appropriate size and shape of the implant is chosen according to the requirement of the patient. This is a day procedure and the patient can go home, the same day, as of surgery.

HOW LONG DOES SURGERY TAKES

The procedure can take from one hour and a half to approximate by two hours.

Two to three days are all that is required to be off from work. Although there is swelling, but physically, a person can resume regular work in just three to four days. Swelling may last more than a week.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LASTS

With cheek implant surgery, the results are permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL

For the first two or three days, there may be some pain, but with adequate pain medication. It is easily controlled.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure, there are potential complications. Possibility of infection, bleeding, asymmetry and extrusion of the implant are possible.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries.

Fat Transfer - Face

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients Fat injection or transfer is a good ancillary procedure for enhancement of facial or body contours.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

With advancing age, in adequate amount of fat in the face or other regions of the body, there is lack of youthfulness or balance. Both of these can be corrected with a relatively safe procedure of fat transfer.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, regional anesthesia or general anesthesia and depending upon the extent of the area to be contoured, the required amount of fat is harvested with a metal tube (cannula), processed and transferred to the target area with a small needle or cannula.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE

It entirely depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured. A minor facial contouring may take only half an hour or so, while a larger body area for example. Buttocks or legs may require up to two hours.

RECOVERY TIME

Again, it depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured.

TIME OFF FROM WORK

It can be done from no time off from work to about one week, depending upon the extent of the area to be treated. A minor contouring of the cheek area can be a walk-in procedure on the other hand, a major fat transfer to a large body area may require a few days of recovery

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST

With all the advantages of a fat transfer, one of the concerns is the unpredictability of the result. Sometimes more than one treatment is required to get the optimum contouring. However, no loss of fat is noticed for a period of six months or longer then the results may last a few years.

IS IT PAINFUL

As with other aspects of the procedure it depends upon the extent, and volume of the fact being transferred. A minor correction is practically pain-free, but a major transfer will have some degree of pain, which is easily treated with pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure there are possible complications. However with this procedure, the common complications are swelling, bruising asymmetry and contour irregularities, which can be easily corrected at a later date. Major complications with a large fat transfers are similar to a liposuction procedure.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Ear Pinning

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have ears that stick out too far from the side of the head. Patients who have ears with an unusual or undesirable shape. INTENDED RESULT Ears that have normal folds and shape with normal protrusion from the side of the head.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The procedure is generally recommended before the child starts going to school. Deformity is to be corrected to avoid psychological problems that child may develop by teasing from other children. The incision is usually made behind the ear, and is not visible. Thy extent of surgery depends upon the deformity. Some deformities are simple to correct while the others may require an extended procedure. After the surgery a bulky dressing is applied, and the patient is usually seen in a day or two after the surgery to check for any unusual complications.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE

The procedure may take from 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, again depending upon the nature and extent of the deformity.

RECOVERY TIME

Physically, there is practically no recovery time needed. However because of the bulky dressing patient may not be able to attend school or a grown up person may not be able to meet with other people. There is some swelling and bruising, which may last from a few days to a week.

TIME OFF FROM WORK

As mentioned in the recovery time, time off from work, essentially means presentability to other people. If somebody is working from home on a computer then they can work the next day. However, if interaction with other people is required then about a week is adequate.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST

Once, ear pinning is performed, the effect is permanent, unless some injury happens.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL

The procedure is not painful, unless there are some complications. If unusual pain is noted the patient must inform the doctor.

COMPLICATIONS

In general it he is a relatively straightforward procedure. However possibility of infection, bleeding, scarring and hematoma exist. If the postoperative instructions are followed carefully the chance of complications is minimized.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Breast Augmentation

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Women who desire a larger breasts. Women with a moderate degree of breast sagging and smaller breast, whose problem can be solved by enlargement. Women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other.

INTENDED RESULT ?

Larger and more shapely breasts. A more positive self- image. A natural look

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. A small incision is made around the nipple, under the arm or under the breast, and a saline or silicone implant is inserted just under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

This surgery usually takes 1 to 1 1\2 hrs, unless, the breast are of abnormal shape or asymmetrical in which case the surgery may take longer.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY ?

The initial recovery period is about to 2-3 days, when most of the patients start to feel better. Activities of daily living can be resume at this stage. Most of the patients are able to resume working in five to six days.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

The pain and tenderness for the first couple of days is well controlled by strong pain medications. After about the 3rd day, most of the patients require regular pain medication for another few days.

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

It varies from one patient to another. Desk job can be resumed in 4 or 5 days if there are more physical activities then a week to ten days is reasonable amount of time.

WHEN CAN I RESUME MY EXERCISE ?

Walking can begin in one week, lower body exercises like biking, riding in about two weeks. Swimming and upper body exercise in one month.

ARE THERE ANY COMPLICATIONS ?

Like any other surgery there is small risk of complications, which include infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness, and hardening of the breast or capsular contracture. You will get a detailed description of possible complications at the time of your consult and in the consent form.

TYPES OF IMPLANT ?

We use both silicon and saline implants. The difference between the two will be discussed at the time of your consult. Silicon implants, however are commonly used world wide and are more popular here as well.

CAN I BREAST FEED AFTER THE SURGERY ?

Possibility of breast-feeding after the breast augmentation is possible. However it depends to certain extent upon the type of incision used and placement of the implant whether it is in front or behind the chest muscle. For e.g.: if the incision is under the breast and the implant is placed behind the muscle, then the breast tissue is least disturbed. No, Guarantees can be made however, about the possibility of breast feeding.

WHAT SIZE OF IMPLANT WILL BE GOOD FOR ME ?

The size of the implant is determined on a number of factors. We take into consideration your weight, height, chest size, the current volume of the breast and the size you desire. We will show you pictures of the other patients who were of the same size as you are and who had breast augmentation. From these pictures you can get a fairly good idea about the size of the breast you want. The idea of the breast augmentation is that the breast size should balance with your height, chest size and the size of your hips. The goal is that you should look and feel good with or without clothes and with your swimsuit.

COST ?

The Cost includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgeries

Breast Reduction

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have large, heavy breasts, which may be the cause of breathing difficulties, back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture, bra-strap indentations and chafing under the breasts. Patients who have excessive breast size, which may decrease a sense of attractiveness and self-confidence. Patients with large breasts that interfere with normal daily activities or with exercise.

INTENDED RESULTS

More attractive contour and smaller breast size. Freedom from health problems associated with excessively large breasts. Improved self-image.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital. Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple-areola complex) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple-areola complex is moved upward to the desired location; excess breast, tissue, fat and skin are removed.

SCARRING

There are a variety of ways to perform breast reduction and breast lift, and the extent of scarring depends upon the particular technique used, this can be determined at the time of consultation with the surgeon.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Length of surgery may be 2 ½ hrs to 4 hrs and it depends upon the size of the breast and the type of technique used.

RECOVERY TIME

Recovery may take from 3-4 days to a week. Some patients have a higher pain threshold and they start to feel better sooner, heavy exercise is avoided for 3-4 weeks

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

There is no definite time frame to predict about how long the results will last. Multiple factors play a role and involve hereditary factors, size of the breast, life style and whether there is any pregnancy after the surgery.

CAN THE BREAST GET BIGGER IN FUTURE ?

As long as the diet and exercise habits are maintained it is unlikely to regain weight in the breasts. With pregnancy of course there is increase in size along with the gain in general body weight.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries.

Breast Lift / Mastopaxy

Breast lift or mastopaxy is the procedure, which is performed to correct sagginess of the breast. The procedure is similar to a breast reduction surgery. However there is no reduction in the size of the breast.

WHO IS THE CANDIDATE ?

Those patients who have lost some volume of the breast or acquired redundant skin, either due to pregnancy, weight loss or the effects of aging, some patients may have large nipple-areola complex (Brown area around the nipple) and may require breast lift for that reason.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful appearance of the breast and an elevated position of the nipple. Breast left surgery, also increase firmness of the breast.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, however, it can be done under local anesthesia with sedation. There are a variety of techniques to perform this procedure, and the resultant scars vary according to the technique used. Most of the techniques require and incisions around the nipple and a vertical scar under the nipple, while others have an additional and horizontal scar under the breast.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure can take anywhere from two to three hours.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

In general, the results may last from five to 10 years, but individual variations exist and in some patients, the results may last longer than the others.

IS THE SURGERY PAINFUL ?

Some pain and discomfort is expected and can be controlled with appropriate pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

Like with any surgery, there is possibility of complications, which in this case includes infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness of the nipple, hematoma and seroma. Unusual complications of nipple are skin loss are not common. However there is some risk of these complications in those patients who smoke.

Breast Reduction for Men / Gaynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a relatively common problem. It is embarrassing for men, with this problem to participate in sports or exposing them in the swimming pool or on a beach.

WHAT CAUSES GYNECOMASTIA ?

Most of the time there is no specific underlying medical condition. It can happen in an otherwise healthy, normal young person. Sometimes there are other causes of Gynecomastia, for example intake of certain medications or hormonal imbalance. Obesity also plays a role in the appearance of Gynecomastia. A thorough evaluation before surgery is important to rule out any underlying problems.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The length of surgery depends upon whether just liposuction alone will suffice or removal of the breast tissue is also required. Sometimes there is redundant skin, which needs to be removed as well in that case, the surgery may take much longer. Usually, the surgery can last from one to three hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

In general two to three days of rest at home after the surgery is sufficient, some swelling and bruising will be there for about a week. Physical activity is to be restricted for two to three weeks after the surgery. Most of the patient can begin office work in about three to four days. Full activity usually can be resumed in three to four weeks.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

Once the excess breast tissue is removed, the chance of recurrence of the problem is minimal, only in those cases where the patient gains a tremendous amount of weight after the surgery the problem can recur. In other words, the results are long-lasting and permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

There is some pain for the first few days, which is easily controlled by appropriate pain medication. Some tenderness may last another few days, usually most of the patients feel comfortable in about three days to a week.

COMPLICATIONS

Other then some swelling and bruising possibility of infection, scarring, hematoma or seroma formation exists. Numbness in the nipple is possible, as well as inversion and scarring.

COST

The cost depends on the procedure. It includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Liposuction

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patient with excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Patients who wish to change their body contours. Commonly involved areas are the anterior part of the neck (under the chin), upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves and ankles. Most patients are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes. Improved techniques now allow for larger amounts of fat to be removed; therefore, Liposculpture can be useful to heavier persons as well. However, Liposculpture is not a form of weight loss; it is intended only as a means of physical contouring.

INTENDED RESULTS

An improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas. A more flattering figure or physique, in or out of clothing.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedures are done on an outpatient basis. Local , Regional or General anesthesia is usually used depending upon the extent and location of liposuction. Small suction tubes (cannulas) are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is removed.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

That depends upon the number of the areas treated and height and weight of the patient. For e.g. if someone needs contouring of the outer thighs it may take an hour or less but if multiple areas need treatment the procedure may last 3 hrs or some what longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RECOVERY TAKE ?

That also depends on the number of areas treated and location as well. In general, it could take a few days to 1 week for most of the patient. Of course each patient is different and a more accurate recovery time can only be ascertained after a consultation and full evaluation.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

Time off from work can vary from a couple of days to a week to 10 days, depending upon the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed. If tummy tuck is performed at the same time recovery could be ten days, or longer

HOW MUCH FAT DO YOU REMOVE FROM THE BODY ?

In general, the safe limit is about 5 liters of volume at one session. Some time we can stretch up to 6-7 liters if there is minimal bleeding, patient is young and healthy and one night stay in the hospital is planned.

CAN THE FAT COME BACK ?

If a person maintains his or her eating and exercise habits at the same level as before liposuction, the fat does not come back. Usually it happens due to an increase in the food intake.

IS IT EFFECTIVE ?

Yes, liposuction is a very effective procedure. In selected patients the results are quite dramatic. But it must be understood that this procedure is for body contouring.

COST ?

The cost of liposuction depends on the number of areas treated and the type of anesthesia used. If it is a small area and it can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation then the cost would be less. The cost includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges and anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

COMPLICATIONS ?

For any surgery, possible complications such as infection, bleeding, numbness, irregularities and asymmetry exist, however under experienced hands the chances of having such complications are very small. The chances of any serious complications in an otherwise healthy patient are even rare.

Tummy Tuck

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with loose or sagging abdominal wall skin, frequently associated with abnormal relaxation of the anterior abdominal wall muscles (frequently secondary to multiple pregnancies or excessive weight loss prior to surgery). Patients who are unable to tighten abdominal wall skin with exercise.

INTENDED RESULTS

A smoother, flatter abdomen.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia either within the hospital or in an outpatient setting (Mini and modified abdominoplasties are similarly performed). Mini-Abdominoplasty tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only (shortest scar). Modified Abdominoplasty addresses conditions where just the muscle wall or just the abdominal skin requires repair. Standard Abdominoplasty tightens all of the abdominal wall skin and muscles (standard scar). Extended Abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides (longest scar extending around the flanks onto lower back).

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Abdominoplasty can take from 2 to 4 hours depending upon the components involved, e.g. if it is just removal of the loose extra skin then the time required will be less, but if muscle tightening and liposuction is also required then it takes longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RECOVERY TAKE ?

Recovery time varies according to the extent of surgery. In general it can take about a week to 10 days to resume sedentary or desk work. Exercise resumption may take 3-4 weeks.

COMPLICATIONS

Abdominoplasty is one of the major surgeries in cosmetic surgery. In properly selected patients and with proper planning the risk of complication is minimized. Potential complications, like in any surgery, are infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness and hematoma. Severe complications like skin loss and embolism are rare.

DOES IT EFFECT FUTURE PREGNANCY ?

It is recommended that full Abdominoplasty be performed when you have completed your family. Although pregnancies have been reported after Abdominoplasty, the amount of skin stretching can cause severe stretch marks and thinning of skin. In selected cases Mini-Abdominoplasty can be performed where the skin removal is limited. Mini-Abdominoplasty is partial removal of the skin between the umbilicus and the pubic region.

WILL THE SCAR BE VISIBLE ?

Scars are usually placed within the bikini area, so they are not visible even while wearing a swimming suit. The scar heals differently in different individuals. In some patients the scar may be thin and narrow and barely visible and in some they could be wide and raised. Healing of the scar is not controlled by the surgeon.

IS IT PAINFUL ? CAN I WALK RIGHT AWAY AFTER THE SURGERY ?

Pain is well controlled by strong pain medication for the first few days, and then eases off. You are encouraged to walk the very first day after surgery, though some patients may have to walk in a bending forward position for a couple of days.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. It also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

Thigh Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

This is the procedure to correct sagging skin of the thighs, whether it is due to weight-loss or from the effects of aging. The results are very satisfying and quite dramatic.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

This procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or regional anesthesia. Sometimes liposuction along with thigh lift is needed. This procedure can be performed to correct sagging of the inner thighs. Thigh lift can also be performed for the outer thighs and buttocks. A hospital stay of one night, possibly two nights, may be helpful.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Depending upon whether it is just the inner thigh, or both outer and inner thighs, the procedure may take approximately 2 to 4 hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

This is a relatively painful procedure. Some difficulty in walking and sitting is experienced in the first one to two weeks. About 1 week to 10 days of recovery is needed. Recovery in terms of exercise etc, may take three to four weeks or longer.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

This again depends upon the extent of surgery, and the type of work. Sedentary office work can be started in approximately 10 days to 2 weeks. Other types of work, where more exertion or physical activity is required, may take longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

It depends upon the age of the patient when the surgery is performed as well as maintenance of weight after the surgery. In an otherwise healthy patient with proper maintenance of diet, and some exercise, the results may last 7 to 10 years.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

This procedure is somewhat painful and strong pain medication is needed at least for the first few days. There is some pain afterwards, but it is easily controlled by proper pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

In a properly selected patients, the surgery goes quite smoothly. There are, however, potential complications which include prolonged swelling and bruising, possibility of infection and scarring, Although the scars are hidden in the groin crease or about the waistline for outer thigh and buttock lift. If liposuction is performed at the same time, the extent of surgery is increased and the risk of complications is relatively higher.

COST ?

The cost depends on the procedure. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Arm Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Excess skin and fat in the upper arm is a common condition in women who have lost weight or due to advancing age the skin has begun to sag. Inability to find proper size dress and embarrassment to expose upper arms are the problems encountered routinely. Though some of the fat can be removed by liposuction the redundant skin does require surgical excision.

HOW IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED (BRACIOPLASTY)

The amount of skin and fat to be removed is assessed by the surgeon and marked on the inside of the upper arms and then removed surgically. The idea is to place the resultant scar in the most invisible position. This way even without sleeves the scar is not visible from front or back in a social encounter. The scars will be visible in the raised arms position however. Many women who experience problem with the proper dress feel much better after the procedure as they find most of the dresses fitting and they are at ease socially.

RECOVERY TIME

The initial pain and swelling will subside in four to five days, then a week of restricted activity followed by no strenuous exercise for another 10 days to two weeks.

WHERE THE SURGERY IS PERFORMED

Brachioplasty or arm lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure in an ambulatory care center or in a hospital. Overnight stay in the hospital is not necessary.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS OR SIDE EFFECTS

As with any surgery, the general complications of infection, bleeding etc. can happen but not common. Swelling and bruising are part of the surgery and will subside in due course of time. Thick, wide or pigmented scars are potential complications which are undesirable in arm lift surgery.

COST

The procedure can vary depending on the procedure. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Fat Transfer

Fat injection or transfer is a good ancillary procedure for enhancement of facial or body contours.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Due to advancing age, inadequate amounts of fat in the face or other regions of the body, there is a lack of youthfulness or balance. Both of these can be corrected with a relatively safe procedure of fat transfer.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, regional anesthesia or general anesthesia. Depending upon the extent of the area to be contoured, the required amount of fat is harvested with a metal tube (cannula), processed and transferred to the target area with a small needle or cannula.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

It entirely depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured. A minor facial contouring may take only half an hour or so, while a larger body area for example buttocks or legs may require up to two hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

Again, it depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

It can be done from no time off from work to about one week, depending upon the extent of the area to be treated. A minor contouring of the cheek area can be a walk-in procedure, on the other hand, a major fat transfer to a large body area may require a few days of recovery.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

With all the advantages of a fat transfer, one of the concerns is the unpredictability of the result. Sometimes more than one treatment is required to get the optimum contouring. However, if no loss of fat is noticed for a period of six months or longer then the results may last a few years.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

As with other aspects of the procedure it depends upon the extent, and volume of the fat being transferred. A minor correction is practically pain-free, but a major transfer will have some degree of pain, which is easily treated with pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure there are possible complications. However, with this procedure, the common complications are swelling, bruising asymmetry and contour irregularities which can be easily corrected at a later date. Major complications with a large fat transfer are similar to a liposuction procedure.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

Laser Hair Removal

What is laser hair removal ?

Removal of a hair from virtually any part of the body with the modern technology of lasers is the most advanced and efficient way of removing unwanted hair. Laser can remove unwanted hair quickly, with minimum pain, and in some cases, permanently. So far, most of the common methods of removal of unwanted hair have been razor, waxing, creams and electrolysis. The drawbacks of these methods have been quick re-growth of the hair, frequent need for treatment, and sometimes pain. The lasers surpass all these methods.

How does the laser work ?

For hair removal, laser essentially destroys the bulb, or the root, of the hair follicle along with the shaft. This happens as the laser energy is absorbed by the darker hair and the absorbed energy heats up the follicle, and the shaft of the hair, thus destroying it. It is important to note that laser energy is not absorbed by the skin, and that is why we do not sustain skin burn. Also, the heat generated is only for a fraction of a second. The laser, however, is only effective while the hair are in the growth phase. About 70% to 80% of all hair are in the growth phase at any particular time, while the rest are in the resting phase. Other than electrolysis, most of the other methods of hair removal only remove the shaft without destroying the hair follicle which is the reason why the hair growth recurs rather quickly. That is why laser hair removal is the method of choice as it is effective, efficient, practical and least painful.

Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal ?

In general, people who have dark hair and light skin are the best candidates for laser hair removal. There are a variety of lasers available now to treat all kind of skin colors. Since the laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the skin, it is advisable to avoid sun tanning, or even an artificial tanning, prior to the treatment.

What areas are most amenable to laser hair removal?

Laser can remove unwanted hair, both from the face and the body. The most common areas treated in women are the facial hair. But the hair both, in men and women, can be removed from practically any area of the body including underarms, legs, back, shoulders and bikini areas.

Is laser hair removal costly ?

Considering the efficiency, timesaving and longer-lasting results, laser hair removal is quite economical compared to other methods of treatment.

Is hair removal by laser permanent ?

There is some confusion about the permanency of hair removal with laser. If you expect that the laser will permanently remove the hair in one or two treatments, then that is not correct. It is more appropriate to state that laser hair removal is long-term and one can expect permanent hair reduction in about three to five treatments. The results are variable in different patients. Some patients may get a very good response, even in few treatments while others may not have a great response, even after many treatments. Having stated all that, laser hair removal is by far the best method available for long, hair-free intervals and, sometimes, even if one needs a treatment once in six months or a year, the laser still comes out ahead of all other methods of hair removal.
