WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck. Patients who have the appearance of jowls and deep creases between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth. Patients who have developed facial and neck wrinkles. Patients who believe that they lack youthful chin and neck contours. Patients who think they have a tired facial appearance.

INTENDED RESULTS ?

A more rested and youthful contour to the face and neck.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION ?

Facelifts range in size from "mini" to "standard" & "SMAS" (where underlying muscles are tightened) depending on location and extent of skin and muscle laxity. The operation is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia. Incisions are made within the hairline (or along the hair margin) above the ear, extending down around the lobe and ending in or below the hairline behind the ear. The subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened, the facial skin is re-draped the and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure can take anywhere from two to four hours, again depending upon the nature and extent of a face lift. Sometimes other procedures are added, and in that case, the time may be even longer. Other procedures, usually combined with the facelift are Blepharoplasty, forehead lift or liposuction, under the chin.

RECOVERY TIME ?

There is minimal, recuperation time, however there is swelling and bruising of the face and neck areas, which prevents people from resuming their day-to-day activities or go to work. Swelling and bruising, usually subsides in about a weeks time, and at that point with some makeup, one can resume daily activities or work.

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

Usually about a week to 10 days is all that is required. If the work does not require interaction with other people than it can be resumed in two to three days, for example, working on the computer at home.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

The results are expected to last about seven to 10 years. A healthy lifestyle, protection from Sun, avoidance of smoking and proper skin care can help the results to last longer.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

Facelift and neck left are generally not very painful. Minimum to mild pain is expected, which is easily controlled by pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Facelift and neck lift surgeries require experience, and expertise in the area of cosmetic plastic surgery. Proper selection of the patient, careful preoperative evaluation and instructions to the patient are important in order to avoid any possible complications. Fortunately, common complications are minor in nature and can be easily taken care of. Other than swelling and bruising. There is a possibility of a hematoma and seroma formation, nerve injury and skin loss. It is imperative that preoperative instructions, be followed carefully, medications, which may cause bleeding must be stopped, prior to the surgery, and the patient must quit smoking four to six weeks before the surgery.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Eyelid Surgery

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Patients with excessive, sagging or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin. Patients with excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision. Patients with excessive or unsightly lower eyelid skin. Patients who have lost their natural upper eyelid crease. Patients with puffy pouches of fat in the upper or lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. Widening of visual fields if excessive upper lid skin has partially blocked vision. The removal or erasing of wrinkle lines, and softening of deep wrinkle lines.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids (trans-conjunctival approach). This technique does not involve an external incision or scar, unless some excess skin needs to be removed as well. When excess skin needs to be removed from lower eyelids, an incision is made just beneath the eyelashes. When excess skin needs to be removed from upper eyelids, the incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids. Excess fat and skin are removed.

DURATION

Eyelid surgery may take about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hrs for both upper and lower eyelids.

ANESTHESIA

This surgery can be performed under local with sedation or general anesthesia. Upper Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia alone.

RECOVERY

For the first few days, there is swelling and bruising around the eyes, most of which is gone by the end of the first week. At this time with some make up and sun glasses you can go out in public.

SCARRING

Scarring is usually minimal and barely visible, at occasion the lower eyelid surgery can be performed from behind the eyelid without leaving a scar on the outside.

COMPLICATIONS

Proper selection of the patient, careful planning, finesse and meticulous execution, are paramount in eyelid surgery. All these steps are important in avoiding complications. Which are infection, bleeding, scarring ectropion and entropian (outward and inward pulling of the eyelids respectively) and in small number of cases impairment of vision. Sometimes itching, dryness or tearing may happen, which is usually temporary.

COST

The Cost includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with a sagging forehead or brows that hang too low and too close to the eyes. Patients with deep vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frown lines).

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Several short incisions are placed in the hairline. The operation is done using an endoscope (a narrow hollow instrument with a fiber optic light source and camera) through which the procedure is done with small special instruments. The forehead skin is lifted and repositioned. The muscles that cause frown lines are weakened.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

The patient goes home with head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed on the first or second day after surgery. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures or staples are removed within 10 days. Most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days.

INSURANCE GUIDELINES

This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.

OTHER OPTIONS

Additional procedures that may enhance the result are lower and/or upper eyelid lift, face lift, or other facial procedures or implants.

APPROXIMATE FEES

Dr. Bokhari's charges are affordable please schedule a consultation so that your specific needs and final charges may be evaluated. One of the most subtle but important procedure to correct early signs of aging in relatively younger group of patients.

Rhinoplasty

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with an abnormal appearance of the nose as a result of birth defects, injury or disease. Patients with a nose that is cosmetically unattractive or does not "fit" with other facial features. Patients with a nasal obstruction due to a deviated nasal septum (divider between the two sides of the nose).

INTENDED RESULTS ?

A more attractive nasal shape. A nose that is more proportionate to other facial features.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION ?

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. If a simple fracture or dislocation is present, manipulation of the nose with instruments may restore the nose to the pre-injury appearance with no cutting or incisions. If a complex fracture or dislocation is present, a more formal operation may be required to solve the problems. In Septoplasty, which is performed on the patient with a deviated septum, the crooked septum is straightened through incisions inside the nose. In standard Rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils. The nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped to improve the external contour. In open Rhinoplasty, which is frequently used for difficult or larger noses, one external incision is made across the columella (strut between the nostrils). Bones, cartilage and soft tissues are reshaped under direct vision. In tip-plasty, which is done when only the tip is abnormal, either a standard or external approach is used to modify the shape. Large nostrils may be reduced through tiny incisions at the outer base of the nostrils with either type of Rhinoplasty.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The surgery can take from 1 - 1 1\2 hrs depending on the nature and complexity of the procedure

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

Most of the patients are physically fine to be able to move around and perform sedentary work, however there is some swelling and bruising around the eyes and there is a splint on the nose which prevents people from going in public. Splint is removed in 1 week and most of the swelling and bruising is gone by that time as well.

DO YOU DO COMPUTER IMAGING ?

Yes, we do computer imaging and it is a good way to get an idea about how the nose will look after the surgery. However, it should be understood that computer image is just a guidelines of what can be accomplished from the surgery. It cannot be guaranteed that the result will be exactly be the same as generated by the computer image.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Some bruising and swelling are expected, they subside in two weeks. The risk of infection, bleeding and scarring are minimized with careful planning and proper execution of the procedure

COST ?

The cost depends upon the amount of work need and the fees includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free computer imaging, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Hair Transplant

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Hair loss is a fairly common problem. Any one who is concerned about hair loss or significant thinning to the extent that the scalp is visible is a candidate for hair transplantation. There are some exceptions however, certain diseases or medications can cause temporary hair loss, and in a situation like this the root cause has to be addressed. Some patients with unrealistic expectations should be guided about the actual outcome. Future considerations in terms of further loss of hair have to be kept in mind and the procedure planned accordingly.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia under sterile conditions. Once the anesthesia is administered is pain free. First a strip of skin is removed from the back of the head and the area where the skin is removed from is closed with sutures. The hair in the back of the head covers the sutured area and is not visible to any one looking at the patient. The mini and micro grafts are prepared form the skin strip very carefully. This takes about two hours; during this period the patient can relax or watch a video etc. Then small slits are made in the scalp and the grafts are inserted. No dressing is required.

TIME OFF FROM WORK / RECOVERY

Physically there is no recovery time required. However, some swelling can occur around the eyes and forehead region, which subsides in 3-4 days.

WHEN DOES THE HAIR START TO GROW

Generally, the hair begins to grow within three to five months after the procedure and the number of new hairs will continue to increase for the next eight or nine months with a proper care. Once the growth begins the hair grow at a rate of approximately half an inch a month.

IS THERE ANY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED

Transplanted hair is your own natural and growing hair, other than regular hair cuts and shampoo there is no further maintenance.

DOES IT LOOK NATURAL

The modern technique of hair transplants with mini and micro grafting gives the transplanted hair a virtually natural look. The old technique of punch grafting which gave a "Barbie doll" or "bushy" appearance is not practiced these days. You will be able to see some of the before and after pictures to get the proper perspective.

PAIN

Pain is minimal. Occasionally people get a headache - pain medication however is prescribed to make fast surgical recovery comfortable.

COMPLICATIONS

Numbness; occasionally some scarring; temporary hair loss of the existing hair due to shock. Ingrown hair and cyst formation can happen

WHAT OTHER AREAS OTHER THAN HEAD CAN HAVE HAIR TRANSPLANTS

Hair transplantation can now be done for many areas including eye brows, moustache, beard, burn areas, eye lashes and other areas where hair transplantation is needed.

COST

The procedure can vary per session. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Sometimes, the procedure can be performed even under local anesthesia, but usually, local anesthesia, along with sedation is better tolerated. A gentle compression dressing and they restricted diet containing mainly in liquids for the first two days is a required. Appropriate size implants are essential to the success of the procedure. Commonly available implant materials are either silicone or polyethylene. Polyethylene has the advantage of sticking to the bone, compared to silicone, which may have some mobility when pushed manually.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure takes approximately 1 hour to one hour and a half.

RECOVERY TIME ?

Physical recovery is quite quick, and most of the day to day activities can practically be resumed the next day. Some swelling and bruising is expected, but does not prevent the patient from working or performing other activities.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

Results of this procedure are permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

This is not a very painful procedure, although some pain and discomfort is expected, for the first 2 or 3 days which is easily controlled by pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Potential complications of infection, scarring, bleeding, extrusion and asymmetry can be avoided with a careful evaluation and execution of the surgery.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Cheek Augmentation

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Some people have a shallow cheek prominence or they may have a narrow face. Aesthetically, a desirable feature of the face is an oval appearance, and the cheek prominence well defined for an aesthetic look. So in order to correct shallowness of the cheek prominence in a profile, or to create an oval appearance of the face, cheek implants are needed.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Cheek implants are placed through a small incision inside the mouth. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. General anesthesia can also be used. Appropriate size and shape of the implant is chosen according to the requirement of the patient. This is a day procedure and the patient can go home, the same day, as of surgery.

HOW LONG DOES SURGERY TAKES

The procedure can take from one hour and a half to approximate by two hours.

Two to three days are all that is required to be off from work. Although there is swelling, but physically, a person can resume regular work in just three to four days. Swelling may last more than a week.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LASTS

With cheek implant surgery, the results are permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL

For the first two or three days, there may be some pain, but with adequate pain medication. It is easily controlled.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure, there are potential complications. Possibility of infection, bleeding, asymmetry and extrusion of the implant are possible.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries.

Fat Transfer - Face

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients Fat injection or transfer is a good ancillary procedure for enhancement of facial or body contours.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

With advancing age, in adequate amount of fat in the face or other regions of the body, there is lack of youthfulness or balance. Both of these can be corrected with a relatively safe procedure of fat transfer.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, regional anesthesia or general anesthesia and depending upon the extent of the area to be contoured, the required amount of fat is harvested with a metal tube (cannula), processed and transferred to the target area with a small needle or cannula.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE

It entirely depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured. A minor facial contouring may take only half an hour or so, while a larger body area for example. Buttocks or legs may require up to two hours.

RECOVERY TIME

Again, it depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured.

TIME OFF FROM WORK

It can be done from no time off from work to about one week, depending upon the extent of the area to be treated. A minor contouring of the cheek area can be a walk-in procedure on the other hand, a major fat transfer to a large body area may require a few days of recovery

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST

With all the advantages of a fat transfer, one of the concerns is the unpredictability of the result. Sometimes more than one treatment is required to get the optimum contouring. However, no loss of fat is noticed for a period of six months or longer then the results may last a few years.

IS IT PAINFUL

As with other aspects of the procedure it depends upon the extent, and volume of the fact being transferred. A minor correction is practically pain-free, but a major transfer will have some degree of pain, which is easily treated with pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure there are possible complications. However with this procedure, the common complications are swelling, bruising asymmetry and contour irregularities, which can be easily corrected at a later date. Major complications with a large fat transfers are similar to a liposuction procedure.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Ear Pinning

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have ears that stick out too far from the side of the head. Patients who have ears with an unusual or undesirable shape. INTENDED RESULT Ears that have normal folds and shape with normal protrusion from the side of the head.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The procedure is generally recommended before the child starts going to school. Deformity is to be corrected to avoid psychological problems that child may develop by teasing from other children. The incision is usually made behind the ear, and is not visible. Thy extent of surgery depends upon the deformity. Some deformities are simple to correct while the others may require an extended procedure. After the surgery a bulky dressing is applied, and the patient is usually seen in a day or two after the surgery to check for any unusual complications.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE

The procedure may take from 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, again depending upon the nature and extent of the deformity.

RECOVERY TIME

Physically, there is practically no recovery time needed. However because of the bulky dressing patient may not be able to attend school or a grown up person may not be able to meet with other people. There is some swelling and bruising, which may last from a few days to a week.

TIME OFF FROM WORK

As mentioned in the recovery time, time off from work, essentially means presentability to other people. If somebody is working from home on a computer then they can work the next day. However, if interaction with other people is required then about a week is adequate.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST

Once, ear pinning is performed, the effect is permanent, unless some injury happens.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL

The procedure is not painful, unless there are some complications. If unusual pain is noted the patient must inform the doctor.

COMPLICATIONS

In general it he is a relatively straightforward procedure. However possibility of infection, bleeding, scarring and hematoma exist. If the postoperative instructions are followed carefully the chance of complications is minimized.

COST

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries

Breast Augmentation

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Women who desire a larger breasts. Women with a moderate degree of breast sagging and smaller breast, whose problem can be solved by enlargement. Women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other.

INTENDED RESULT ?

Larger and more shapely breasts. A more positive self- image. A natural look

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. A small incision is made around the nipple, under the arm or under the breast, and a saline or silicone implant is inserted just under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

This surgery usually takes 1 to 1 1\2 hrs, unless, the breast are of abnormal shape or asymmetrical in which case the surgery may take longer.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY ?

The initial recovery period is about to 2-3 days, when most of the patients start to feel better. Activities of daily living can be resume at this stage. Most of the patients are able to resume working in five to six days.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

The pain and tenderness for the first couple of days is well controlled by strong pain medications. After about the 3rd day, most of the patients require regular pain medication for another few days.

TIME OFF FROM WORK ?

It varies from one patient to another. Desk job can be resumed in 4 or 5 days if there are more physical activities then a week to ten days is reasonable amount of time.

WHEN CAN I RESUME MY EXERCISE ?

Walking can begin in one week, lower body exercises like biking, riding in about two weeks. Swimming and upper body exercise in one month.

ARE THERE ANY COMPLICATIONS ?

Like any other surgery there is small risk of complications, which include infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness, and hardening of the breast or capsular contracture. You will get a detailed description of possible complications at the time of your consult and in the consent form.

TYPES OF IMPLANT ?

We use both silicon and saline implants. The difference between the two will be discussed at the time of your consult. Silicon implants, however are commonly used world wide and are more popular here as well.

CAN I BREAST FEED AFTER THE SURGERY ?

Possibility of breast-feeding after the breast augmentation is possible. However it depends to certain extent upon the type of incision used and placement of the implant whether it is in front or behind the chest muscle. For e.g.: if the incision is under the breast and the implant is placed behind the muscle, then the breast tissue is least disturbed. No, Guarantees can be made however, about the possibility of breast feeding.

WHAT SIZE OF IMPLANT WILL BE GOOD FOR ME ?

The size of the implant is determined on a number of factors. We take into consideration your weight, height, chest size, the current volume of the breast and the size you desire. We will show you pictures of the other patients who were of the same size as you are and who had breast augmentation. From these pictures you can get a fairly good idea about the size of the breast you want. The idea of the breast augmentation is that the breast size should balance with your height, chest size and the size of your hips. The goal is that you should look and feel good with or without clothes and with your swimsuit.

COST ?

The Cost includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgeries

Breast Reduction

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients who have large, heavy breasts, which may be the cause of breathing difficulties, back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture, bra-strap indentations and chafing under the breasts. Patients who have excessive breast size, which may decrease a sense of attractiveness and self-confidence. Patients with large breasts that interfere with normal daily activities or with exercise.

INTENDED RESULTS

More attractive contour and smaller breast size. Freedom from health problems associated with excessively large breasts. Improved self-image.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital. Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple-areola complex) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple-areola complex is moved upward to the desired location; excess breast, tissue, fat and skin are removed.

SCARRING

There are a variety of ways to perform breast reduction and breast lift, and the extent of scarring depends upon the particular technique used, this can be determined at the time of consultation with the surgeon.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Length of surgery may be 2 ˝ hrs to 4 hrs and it depends upon the size of the breast and the type of technique used.

RECOVERY TIME

Recovery may take from 3-4 days to a week. Some patients have a higher pain threshold and they start to feel better sooner, heavy exercise is avoided for 3-4 weeks

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

There is no definite time frame to predict about how long the results will last. Multiple factors play a role and involve hereditary factors, size of the breast, life style and whether there is any pregnancy after the surgery.

CAN THE BREAST GET BIGGER IN FUTURE ?

As long as the diet and exercise habits are maintained it is unlikely to regain weight in the breasts. With pregnancy of course there is increase in size along with the gain in general body weight.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries.

Breast Lift / Mastopaxy

Breast lift or mastopaxy is the procedure, which is performed to correct sagginess of the breast. The procedure is similar to a breast reduction surgery. However there is no reduction in the size of the breast.

WHO IS THE CANDIDATE ?

Those patients who have lost some volume of the breast or acquired redundant skin, either due to pregnancy, weight loss or the effects of aging, some patients may have large nipple-areola complex (Brown area around the nipple) and may require breast lift for that reason.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more youthful appearance of the breast and an elevated position of the nipple. Breast left surgery, also increase firmness of the breast.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, however, it can be done under local anesthesia with sedation. There are a variety of techniques to perform this procedure, and the resultant scars vary according to the technique used. Most of the techniques require and incisions around the nipple and a vertical scar under the nipple, while others have an additional and horizontal scar under the breast.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The procedure can take anywhere from two to three hours.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

In general, the results may last from five to 10 years, but individual variations exist and in some patients, the results may last longer than the others.

IS THE SURGERY PAINFUL ?

Some pain and discomfort is expected and can be controlled with appropriate pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

Like with any surgery, there is possibility of complications, which in this case includes infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness of the nipple, hematoma and seroma. Unusual complications of nipple are skin loss are not common. However there is some risk of these complications in those patients who smoke.

Breast Reduction for Men / Gaynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a relatively common problem. It is embarrassing for men, with this problem to participate in sports or exposing them in the swimming pool or on a beach.

WHAT CAUSES GYNECOMASTIA ?

Most of the time there is no specific underlying medical condition. It can happen in an otherwise healthy, normal young person. Sometimes there are other causes of Gynecomastia, for example intake of certain medications or hormonal imbalance. Obesity also plays a role in the appearance of Gynecomastia. A thorough evaluation before surgery is important to rule out any underlying problems.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

The length of surgery depends upon whether just liposuction alone will suffice or removal of the breast tissue is also required. Sometimes there is redundant skin, which needs to be removed as well in that case, the surgery may take much longer. Usually, the surgery can last from one to three hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

In general two to three days of rest at home after the surgery is sufficient, some swelling and bruising will be there for about a week. Physical activity is to be restricted for two to three weeks after the surgery. Most of the patient can begin office work in about three to four days. Full activity usually can be resumed in three to four weeks.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

Once the excess breast tissue is removed, the chance of recurrence of the problem is minimal, only in those cases where the patient gains a tremendous amount of weight after the surgery the problem can recur. In other words, the results are long-lasting and permanent.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

There is some pain for the first few days, which is easily controlled by appropriate pain medication. Some tenderness may last another few days, usually most of the patients feel comfortable in about three days to a week.

COMPLICATIONS

Other then some swelling and bruising possibility of infection, scarring, hematoma or seroma formation exists. Numbness in the nipple is possible, as well as inversion and scarring.

COST

The cost depends on the procedure. It includes the surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Liposuction

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patient with excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Patients who wish to change their body contours. Commonly involved areas are the anterior part of the neck (under the chin), upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves and ankles. Most patients are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes. Improved techniques now allow for larger amounts of fat to be removed; therefore, Liposculpture can be useful to heavier persons as well. However, Liposculpture is not a form of weight loss; it is intended only as a means of physical contouring.

INTENDED RESULTS

An improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas. A more flattering figure or physique, in or out of clothing.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedures are done on an outpatient basis. Local , Regional or General anesthesia is usually used depending upon the extent and location of liposuction. Small suction tubes (cannulas) are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is removed.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

That depends upon the number of the areas treated and height and weight of the patient. For e.g. if someone needs contouring of the outer thighs it may take an hour or less but if multiple areas need treatment the procedure may last 3 hrs or some what longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RECOVERY TAKE ?

That also depends on the number of areas treated and location as well. In general, it could take a few days to 1 week for most of the patient. Of course each patient is different and a more accurate recovery time can only be ascertained after a consultation and full evaluation.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

Time off from work can vary from a couple of days to a week to 10 days, depending upon the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed. If tummy tuck is performed at the same time recovery could be ten days, or longer

HOW MUCH FAT DO YOU REMOVE FROM THE BODY ?

In general, the safe limit is about 5 liters of volume at one session. Some time we can stretch up to 6-7 liters if there is minimal bleeding, patient is young and healthy and one night stay in the hospital is planned.

CAN THE FAT COME BACK ?

If a person maintains his or her eating and exercise habits at the same level as before liposuction, the fat does not come back. Usually it happens due to an increase in the food intake.

IS IT EFFECTIVE ?

Yes, liposuction is a very effective procedure. In selected patients the results are quite dramatic. But it must be understood that this procedure is for body contouring.

COST ?

The cost of liposuction depends on the number of areas treated and the type of anesthesia used. If it is a small area and it can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation then the cost would be less. The cost includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges and anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

COMPLICATIONS ?

For any surgery, possible complications such as infection, bleeding, numbness, irregularities and asymmetry exist, however under experienced hands the chances of having such complications are very small. The chances of any serious complications in an otherwise healthy patient are even rare.

Tummy Tuck

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Patients with loose or sagging abdominal wall skin, frequently associated with abnormal relaxation of the anterior abdominal wall muscles (frequently secondary to multiple pregnancies or excessive weight loss prior to surgery). Patients who are unable to tighten abdominal wall skin with exercise.

INTENDED RESULTS

A smoother, flatter abdomen.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia either within the hospital or in an outpatient setting (Mini and modified abdominoplasties are similarly performed). Mini-Abdominoplasty tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only (shortest scar). Modified Abdominoplasty addresses conditions where just the muscle wall or just the abdominal skin requires repair. Standard Abdominoplasty tightens all of the abdominal wall skin and muscles (standard scar). Extended Abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides (longest scar extending around the flanks onto lower back).

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Abdominoplasty can take from 2 to 4 hours depending upon the components involved, e.g. if it is just removal of the loose extra skin then the time required will be less, but if muscle tightening and liposuction is also required then it takes longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RECOVERY TAKE ?

Recovery time varies according to the extent of surgery. In general it can take about a week to 10 days to resume sedentary or desk work. Exercise resumption may take 3-4 weeks.

COMPLICATIONS

Abdominoplasty is one of the major surgeries in cosmetic surgery. In properly selected patients and with proper planning the risk of complication is minimized. Potential complications, like in any surgery, are infection, bleeding, scarring, numbness and hematoma. Severe complications like skin loss and embolism are rare.

DOES IT EFFECT FUTURE PREGNANCY ?

It is recommended that full Abdominoplasty be performed when you have completed your family. Although pregnancies have been reported after Abdominoplasty, the amount of skin stretching can cause severe stretch marks and thinning of skin. In selected cases Mini-Abdominoplasty can be performed where the skin removal is limited. Mini-Abdominoplasty is partial removal of the skin between the umbilicus and the pubic region.

WILL THE SCAR BE VISIBLE ?

Scars are usually placed within the bikini area, so they are not visible even while wearing a swimming suit. The scar heals differently in different individuals. In some patients the scar may be thin and narrow and barely visible and in some they could be wide and raised. Healing of the scar is not controlled by the surgeon.

IS IT PAINFUL ? CAN I WALK RIGHT AWAY AFTER THE SURGERY ?

Pain is well controlled by strong pain medication for the first few days, and then eases off. You are encouraged to walk the very first day after surgery, though some patients may have to walk in a bending forward position for a couple of days.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. It also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

Thigh Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

This is the procedure to correct sagging skin of the thighs, whether it is due to weight-loss or from the effects of aging. The results are very satisfying and quite dramatic.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

This procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or regional anesthesia. Sometimes liposuction along with thigh lift is needed. This procedure can be performed to correct sagging of the inner thighs. Thigh lift can also be performed for the outer thighs and buttocks. A hospital stay of one night, possibly two nights, may be helpful.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

Depending upon whether it is just the inner thigh, or both outer and inner thighs, the procedure may take approximately 2 to 4 hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

This is a relatively painful procedure. Some difficulty in walking and sitting is experienced in the first one to two weeks. About 1 week to 10 days of recovery is needed. Recovery in terms of exercise etc, may take three to four weeks or longer.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

This again depends upon the extent of surgery, and the type of work. Sedentary office work can be started in approximately 10 days to 2 weeks. Other types of work, where more exertion or physical activity is required, may take longer.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

It depends upon the age of the patient when the surgery is performed as well as maintenance of weight after the surgery. In an otherwise healthy patient with proper maintenance of diet, and some exercise, the results may last 7 to 10 years.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

This procedure is somewhat painful and strong pain medication is needed at least for the first few days. There is some pain afterwards, but it is easily controlled by proper pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

In a properly selected patients, the surgery goes quite smoothly. There are, however, potential complications which include prolonged swelling and bruising, possibility of infection and scarring, Although the scars are hidden in the groin crease or about the waistline for outer thigh and buttock lift. If liposuction is performed at the same time, the extent of surgery is increased and the risk of complications is relatively higher.

COST ?

The cost depends on the procedure. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Arm Lift

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Excess skin and fat in the upper arm is a common condition in women who have lost weight or due to advancing age the skin has begun to sag. Inability to find proper size dress and embarrassment to expose upper arms are the problems encountered routinely. Though some of the fat can be removed by liposuction the redundant skin does require surgical excision.

HOW IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED (BRACIOPLASTY)

The amount of skin and fat to be removed is assessed by the surgeon and marked on the inside of the upper arms and then removed surgically. The idea is to place the resultant scar in the most invisible position. This way even without sleeves the scar is not visible from front or back in a social encounter. The scars will be visible in the raised arms position however. Many women who experience problem with the proper dress feel much better after the procedure as they find most of the dresses fitting and they are at ease socially.

RECOVERY TIME

The initial pain and swelling will subside in four to five days, then a week of restricted activity followed by no strenuous exercise for another 10 days to two weeks.

WHERE THE SURGERY IS PERFORMED

Brachioplasty or arm lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure in an ambulatory care center or in a hospital. Overnight stay in the hospital is not necessary.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS OR SIDE EFFECTS

As with any surgery, the general complications of infection, bleeding etc. can happen but not common. Swelling and bruising are part of the surgery and will subside in due course of time. Thick, wide or pigmented scars are potential complications which are undesirable in arm lift surgery.

COST

The procedure can vary depending on the procedure. It includes the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee and it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and an additional discount for future surgery.

Fat Transfer

Fat injection or transfer is a good ancillary procedure for enhancement of facial or body contours.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Due to advancing age, inadequate amounts of fat in the face or other regions of the body, there is a lack of youthfulness or balance. Both of these can be corrected with a relatively safe procedure of fat transfer.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, regional anesthesia or general anesthesia. Depending upon the extent of the area to be contoured, the required amount of fat is harvested with a metal tube (cannula), processed and transferred to the target area with a small needle or cannula.

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE ?

It entirely depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured. A minor facial contouring may take only half an hour or so, while a larger body area for example buttocks or legs may require up to two hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

Again, it depends upon the extent of the area to be contoured.

TIME-OFF FROM WORK ?

It can be done from no time off from work to about one week, depending upon the extent of the area to be treated. A minor contouring of the cheek area can be a walk-in procedure, on the other hand, a major fat transfer to a large body area may require a few days of recovery.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

With all the advantages of a fat transfer, one of the concerns is the unpredictability of the result. Sometimes more than one treatment is required to get the optimum contouring. However, if no loss of fat is noticed for a period of six months or longer then the results may last a few years.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

As with other aspects of the procedure it depends upon the extent, and volume of the fat being transferred. A minor correction is practically pain-free, but a major transfer will have some degree of pain, which is easily treated with pain medication.

COMPLICATIONS

With any surgical procedure there are possible complications. However, with this procedure, the common complications are swelling, bruising asymmetry and contour irregularities which can be easily corrected at a later date. Major complications with a large fat transfer are similar to a liposuction procedure.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow-up for life time and additional discounts for future surgeries.

Laser Hair Removal

What is laser hair removal ?

Removal of a hair from virtually any part of the body with the modern technology of lasers is the most advanced and efficient way of removing unwanted hair. Laser can remove unwanted hair quickly, with minimum pain, and in some cases, permanently. So far, most of the common methods of removal of unwanted hair have been razor, waxing, creams and electrolysis. The drawbacks of these methods have been quick re-growth of the hair, frequent need for treatment, and sometimes pain. The lasers surpass all these methods.

How does the laser work ?

For hair removal, laser essentially destroys the bulb, or the root, of the hair follicle along with the shaft. This happens as the laser energy is absorbed by the darker hair and the absorbed energy heats up the follicle, and the shaft of the hair, thus destroying it. It is important to note that laser energy is not absorbed by the skin, and that is why we do not sustain skin burn. Also, the heat generated is only for a fraction of a second. The laser, however, is only effective while the hair are in the growth phase. About 70% to 80% of all hair are in the growth phase at any particular time, while the rest are in the resting phase. Other than electrolysis, most of the other methods of hair removal only remove the shaft without destroying the hair follicle which is the reason why the hair growth recurs rather quickly. That is why laser hair removal is the method of choice as it is effective, efficient, practical and least painful.

Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal ?

In general, people who have dark hair and light skin are the best candidates for laser hair removal. There are a variety of lasers available now to treat all kind of skin colors. Since the laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the skin, it is advisable to avoid sun tanning, or even an artificial tanning, prior to the treatment.

What areas are most amenable to laser hair removal?

Laser can remove unwanted hair, both from the face and the body. The most common areas treated in women are the facial hair. But the hair both, in men and women, can be removed from practically any area of the body including underarms, legs, back, shoulders and bikini areas.

Is laser hair removal costly ?

Considering the efficiency, timesaving and longer-lasting results, laser hair removal is quite economical compared to other methods of treatment.

Is hair removal by laser permanent ?

There is some confusion about the permanency of hair removal with laser. If you expect that the laser will permanently remove the hair in one or two treatments, then that is not correct. It is more appropriate to state that laser hair removal is long-term and one can expect permanent hair reduction in about three to five treatments. The results are variable in different patients. Some patients may get a very good response, even in few treatments while others may not have a great response, even after many treatments. Having stated all that, laser hair removal is by far the best method available for long, hair-free intervals and, sometimes, even if one needs a treatment once in six months or a year, the laser still comes out ahead of all other methods of hair removal.

Is laser hair removal painful ?

Compared to waxing and electrolysis, laser hair removal is much more comfortable. Some patients prefer the topical, numbing cream to avoid any discomfort. Mild redness and some burning sensation are normal after the treatment. Ice packs are very helpful for the first couple of hours.

Are there possible complications ?

Careful selection of laser parameters is important for a successful outcome. Possible complications in the laser hair removal are due to over treatment or due to excessive laser energy. If over treated, there could be unusual pain, blistering of the skin or even a superficial or deep burn. There is a possibility of the loss of skin pigment which may improve with time.

Leg Veins (Spider or Varicose )

Long Pulse Nd-YAG laser is effective in treating visible tiny spider veins of the face or larger leg veins.

How does the laser work ?

Laser energy is color specific and is absorbed by the target organ or tissue. In case of spider veins or leg veins, the energy is absorbed by the red color in blood cells. The heat generated by absorption of laser energy destroys not only the cells but the vessel wall also. The veins treated in this fashion disintegrate slowly into a thread-like structure.

How many sessions are required ?

Usually one to two sessions are sufficient. In some patients more sessions may be required.

Is this treatment painful ?

The treatment is easily tolerable. If necessary, a numbing cream can be applied.

Are there any possible complications ?

Possible complications include streaking, blistering or whitening of the skin. Sometimes skin ulcers could form and may prolong the healing period.

Tattoo Removal

Sometimes, people want their tattoo/s to be removed. There are a variety of ways to remove tattoos. Q-switched Nd-YAG is an effective lasers of for dark, blue-black and India ink tattoos. Tattoos can be removed with Alexandrite and CO2 lasers as well. Other methods include dermabrasion.

How does the laser work ?

The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment of the tattoo. When sufficient energy is applied, large pieces of the pigment in that tattoo burst into tiny particles like an explosion and then these particles push through the surface of the skin and disperse in the air.

Is tattoo removal permanent ?

Once a tattoo is completely removed, the change is permanent.

How many sessions or required ?

The numbers of sessions vary from one patient to other, and they depend upon the depth, density and the age of the tattoo and whether it was done by a professional or by and an amateur. It may very from one to two sessions or may require many sessions. Most of the patients however improve with three to five sessions.

Is it painful ?

There is mild discomfort, like snapping of a rubber band and some burning. Most of the patient tolerates the procedure well and if necessary a numbing cream can be applied to ease the discomfort and pain.

Are there any possible complications ?

Complications in this procedure are rare. The laser energy is absorbed by the tattoo without harming the skin. If over treated, there could be some damage to the skin, not from the laser itself, but from the particles of the pigment which is heated up and explodes through the skin.

Laser Procedures

FACIAL VEINS (TELANGECTASIAS)

Facial veins are fine, little red veins on the nose, chin or cheeks that appear both in men and women as a normal part of aging. These can also result from pregnancy, childbirth, birth-control pills, estrogen-replacement therapy, sun damage Rosacea and even corticosteroids. These are not broken blood vessels, only permanently dilated and visible fine veins. Laser treatments for facial Telangectasias depend on the quantity, size and depth of veins. Most patients need between one (1) to four (4) sessions that are 4-6 weeks apart. The appearance of the treated area immediately after laser session will vary from patient to patient and they may include redness, tenderness, crusting and blistering, all of which disappears in short time.

POIKILODERMA OF CIVATTE

It is a mottled pigmentation on the neck , mostly considered to be a reaction pattern of the skin and not a disease. It is a combination of atrophy, telangectasias and changes in pigments (both hypopigmentation & Hyperpigmentation), more common in females than in males affecting middle-aged or elderly women but can be seen in other age groups. Occasionally, patients report mild burning and itching. The causes of Poikiloderma are unknown but many factors are implicated: " Chronic exposure to UV light rays " Photosensitizing chemicals in perfumes or other cosmetic products " Possibly hormonal changes related with menopause and low estrogen level " as well as genetic predisposition

SOLAR LENTIGINES

Are multiple dark-brown macules on the face, ears, forearms, hands, chins, upper back and chest and scalp in bald men due to chronic exposure to sunlight. Solar Lentigines are not the same as freckles (ephelides). These do not fade in the winter as freckles do, these may disappear spontaneously but in general these will remain for years. The laser targets the brown pigment - melanin and the number of sessions may vary from patient to patient.

HEMANGIOMA

(Birthmark) Is a vascular malformation which may involve capillaries, veins, arteries and lymphatic without endothelial proliferation and with or without spontaneous involution. Typically, the Hemangioma appears within 2 weeks after birth as a small red blemish which rapidly grows. Most hemangiomas when first diagnosed are superficial and can be treated by laser which selects the red (oxihemoglobin) and shrinks the vessels. Repeated treatments can almost remove these but complete removal of every trace (for deep one) should not be expected.

PORT-WINE STAIN (Nevus flammeus)

A port-wine stain (PWS) is of irregular shape red or violaceus vascular malformation that is present at birth and never disappears spontaneously (except for the salmon patch). In adulthood, PWS's usually becomes raised and the cause of significant and progressive cosmetic disfigurement. The laser targets the red pigments in the blood vessels and several sessions should be advised and maintenance program are needed as these can reappear.

ROSACEA (from Latin word: "like roses")

Is a chronic acneform disorder of the facial pilosebaceous units, coupled with an increased reactivity of capillaries to heat leading to flushing and ultimately to telangectasias. Although, this disease was previously called acne rosacea, it is unrelated but may coexist with acne, which may have preceded the onset of rosacea. Rosacea is the cause of significant cosmetic disfigurement.

KERATOSIS

Keratosis pillaris is perifollicular hyperkeratosis with little, spiny hyperkeratotic follicular papules of normal skin color that are either grouped or disseminated and appear mostly on the extensor surfaces of the extremities. In childhood may also be prominent on the cheeks. Usually it involves the arms, shins, back, lower legs, buttocks and lateral thighs and sometimes the forehead and cheeks.

NEVUS OF OTTA

This pigmentary disorder is very common in Asian population and is said to occur in 1% of outpatient visits in Japan. It has been reported in East Indians, in blacks and rarely in Caucasians. This pigmentation which can be quite subtle or markedly disfiguring

consists of mottled, dusky mixture of blue and brown hyperpigmentation of the skin. It may be congenital but is not hereditary. More often it appears in early childhood or during puberty and remains for life. Treatment with laser is an effective new mode for this disorder.

BECKER NEVUS

It is a pigmented hamartoma that is a developmental anomaly comprising of changes in pigmentation, hair growth and most importantantly a slightly elevated smooth verrucous surface. It occurs mostly in males in all races. It appears NOT in birth but usually before 15 years of age and sometimes after age 15. It is light brown in color with sharply demarcated borders. Common locations are the shoulders and the back with increased hair growth in the pigmented area. The lesions extend for a year or two and then remain stable, only rarely fading. Coarse hair may develop.

HYPERPIGMENTATION (Melasma - from Greek word: "a black spot")

Synonymous with Chloasma or mask of pregnancy is an acquired, light or dark hyperpigmentation that occurs in the exposed areas, most often on the face and results from exposure to sunlight. It may be associated with pregnancy, ingestion of contraceptives or possibly with certain medication. The pigmentation usually evolves quite rapidly over weeks, particularly after exposure to sunlight. Melasma is more apparent or more frequent in persons with brown or black skin color (persons from Asia, Middle East, India and South America). May disappears spontaneously over a period of months after delivery or after cessation of contraceptive hormones.

AGE SPOTS (Solar keratosis)

These are single or multiple, discrete; dry, rough, adherent scaly lesions on the habitually sun-exposed skin of adults, which are removed with difficulty and with pain. Most commonly are skin colored, or yellow-brown and are situated in face, ears, neck, forearms and hands, shins and on the scalp in bald males. Solar keratosis may disappear spontaneously, but in general they remain for years and sometimes may develop in squamous cell carcinoma (cancer). The target for the laser is the pigment melanin and from case to case 2-6 sessions are required for treatment.

Mole Removal

At times some of the moles need to be removed. The reason may be cosmetic, or a suspicion that a particular mole may be a skin cancer. Other than taking a wider margin around the mole in cases of suspected skin cancer the procedure is essentially the same.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

A local anesthetic agent is injected around the mole and the lesion (mole ) is surgically removed. The wound is then closed with sutures. It is advisable to send the specimen (mole) for pathological examination to know the exact nature of the lesion. Sometimes, in suspected skin cancers, if the removal is incomplete, the procedure may have to be repeated for the complete removal.

SIDE EFFECTS:

The undesirable side effects are resultant scarring, possibility of recurrence, and sometimes keloid (raised, thick scar) formation. Though it is unpredictable that how a particular scar will heal, most of the scars heal well, without leaving a noticeable mark. Most of these procedures are done under local anesthesia in an office setting, requiring practically no time of work. Pain is also a very slight requiring mild analgesics.

Fillers

The fillers these days are considered an important aspect of cosmetic surgery. There are a variety of fillers, available. Most of the commonly fillers used have a limited effect, they usually last from about four to six months. There are some long term fillers, which may last up to two years or longer, but they have some potential side effects. There are even some permanent fillers but they are also not without problems. Hyaluronic acid, collagen and body fat or commonly used short term filler.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?

Fillers are mostly used for facial and body contouring. Hyaluronic acid or fat can be used, for enhancement of the facial features. Body fat can be removed from areas, it is not where desired and then it can be transferred to those area where enhancement is needed, for example, calves and Buttocks. Fat, however is not recommended for enlargement of the breasts.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Minor facial enhancements can be performed in an office setting under local anesthesia. For larger areas regional or general anesthesia may be required so the procedure has to be performed in a hospital. Other than fat, the fillers come pre-prepared in a syringe ready to be injected. Fat, however has to be first removed from some area of the body, for example abdomen or thighs, prepared, and then injected where it is needed.

  • Restylane?
    What is Restylane?
Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane must be administered by a licensed practitioner

    What is Restylane made of?
Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of a crystal-clear gel called NASHA™, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

How is Restylane different than other hyaluronic acid-based products?
Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane is non-animal derived. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions.

What should patients do prior to treatment?
Restylane requires no pretesting, but patients should take a few precautions before being treated. Patients should avoid using aspirin, or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, St. Johns's Wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

The answer to long-lasting wrinkle correction is Restylane. If you're considering a wrinkle correction treatment there are a few things you should know about Restylane.

    Is Restylane safe?
Yes. Restylane has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because Restylane is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. Virtually any risk of animal-based disease transmission is eliminated. The most commonly reported adverse events were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.

Can Restylane be used anywhere on the face?
Restylane has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. However, it is currently indicated in the U.S. only for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds.

    How long does Restylane last?
Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months, or even longer. The unique NASHA™ technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone

How often should I have Restylane treatments done?
Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

How is Restylane different from Botox?
    A
Restylane is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, Botox is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

How is Restylane different from Bovine Collegen?
Restylane is proven to deliver a longer-lasting effect than traditional collagen. In addition, bovine collagen is derived from animals (cow) and requires an allergy test. Because Restylane is non-animal-based, virtually any risk of animal-based disease transmission is eliminated, and it can be administered without pretesting. No waiting is required.

Restylane maintains it's shape using the body's own moisture so perhaps it's not surprising that the most basic element of natural beauty, water, holds the key to the long-lasting results you can expect.

  • Radiesse?
Radiesse is a soft tissue implant consisting of tiny microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) which is naturally found in the body. It is combined with an aqueous gel (made of carbomethycellulose, glycerin and water). This material is biocompatible (not harmful to the body) as well as biodegradable (broken down by the body).

What makes Radiesse different from other fillers?
The distinctive feature of Radiesse is that it provides both immediate correcion along with longer lasting duration. The aqueous gel delivers the immediate correction while the CaHA creates a matrix for collagen production allowing for longer lasting results.

    Is Radiesse safe?
The material is identical in composition to the mineral portion of teeth and bone, thus it is inherently safe. The material has been used for the other medical applications such as reconstructive surgery, ENT, maxillofcial surgery, dentistry and urology. No allergy skin test is required.

How long will the Radiesse treatment last?
The effects of Radiesse can last up to a year or longer. However, treatment results will differ for each person. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.

What can I expect following my Radiesse Treatment?
You will experience an immediate correction. The most common side effects include temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. Slight bruising may occur and typically resolves in a few days.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE ?

Minor enhancements of the face, which are performed in the office can take a few minutes, on the other hand, larger areas which require the procedure to be performed in the hospital may take anywhere from one hour to two hours.

RECOVERY TIME ?

It again depends upon the nature and extent of the procedure. Minor facial enhancements practically do not require any recovery time and are essentially a walk-in procedure. Enhancements performed in the hospital may require, two to four days of recovery.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST ?

As mentioned earlier, most of the short term the fillers only last from four to six months and then they need to be repeated. Fat injections can last longer, though the exact length of how long it will stay cannot be predetermined.

IS IT PAINFUL ?

Facial or body enhancements are not very painful, particularly enhancements of the face. Some bruising, swelling and discomfort is to be expected.

COMPLICATIONS ?

Minor complication includes asymmetry, and irregularity. Major a complications like infection, bleeding or scarring or not common.

COST ?

The cost includes surgeon fee, hospital charges, anesthesia fee. And it also includes free consultation, free follow up for life time and additional discount's for future surgeries.

Scar Revision

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Patients with wide, thick, depressed, or unsightly scars.

INTENDED RESULTS

A scar that is less noticeable (flatter, thinner, smoother, etc.).

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Scar revisions are usually done under local anesthesia. If the scars are large or if the patient prefers, the procedure may be done under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The old scar is removed, and one of several plastic surgery techniques is used to repair the incision. The surgeon will use whichever technique will allow the best chance of obtaining an improved or excellent scar. The extent of surgery, time off from work, and recovery time have to be determined on an individual basis. The expected results also vary from patient to patient. Actually, outcome of scar revision is difficult to predict. Most of the patients are expected to get good results, but in some patients the end results may not be as satisfying.

Chemical Peeling

Chemical Peeling

What is Chemical Peeling?

Chemical peeling is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the skin which causes it to separate, peel off,and allows new skin to regenerate. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin, and may also be more ever in color.

What can a chemical peel do?

  • chemical peeling is used to treat fine lines, especially under the eyes and around the mouth, wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging, and hereditary factors can be reduced or even eliminated with this procedure. However, sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles don’t respond to peeling and may require other kinds of cosmetic surgical procedures.
  • Mild scarring and certain types of acne may also be treated with chemical peels.
  • Pigmentation of the skin in the form of sun spots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, blotchiness due to taking birth control pills, and skin that is dull in texture and color may be improved with chemical peeling.
  • Areas of sun-damaged skin and scaling patches may improve after chemical peeling as well.

How  are chemical peels performed?

The procedure may be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs. Superficial, medium,or deep chemical peels may be used to improve damaged skin. As a rule, the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery time. The beauty therapist will recommended the best peel for your skin problems.

Prior to treatment, instructions may include stopping certain medications and preparing the skin with preconditioning cream.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, and the eyes and hair and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid,or lactic acid,or carbolic acid(phenol) are used. The beauty therapist will suggest the proper peeling agent based upon the type of skin damage present and desired results.

During a chemical peeling, the beauty therapist applies the solution to various areas of the skin. The applications produce separation and eventually peel peel of layers of skin ,enabling rejuvenated skin to appear.

During the procedure, most patients experience a warm to hot sensation that may about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. A deeper peel may be more painful and require medication during or after the procedure.

What should be expected after treatment?

Depending upon the type of peel, there may be a mild to severe sun burning sensation. Superficial peeling usually involves redness, followed by scaling that lasts three to five days.

Medium-depth and deep peeling can sometimes result in swelling and blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of 7 to 14 days or longer.

Its is important to avoid overexposure to the sun immediately after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to injury. The Beauty Therapist will prescribe appropriate follow-up care to help the skin heal.

 What are the possible complications?

In certain skin types, there is a risk of developing a temporary or permanent color change. Birth control pills, pregnancy,or a family history of brownish discoloration on the face may increase the possibility of developing abnormal pigmentation. Persistent redness may also occur and can last for month.

Although very low, there is a risk of scarring after chemical peels. If scarring does occur,it can usually be treated with good results.

What is the limitations of chemical peels?

Chemical peels can not remove loose or sagging skin since they cannot eliminate the gravitational forces with produce the loose skin. A facelift, brow lift,laser/light-based skin rejuvenation,or other procedures may be required.

Chemical peeling does not remove deep scars. Dermabrasion, laser resurfacing or non-ablative laser therapy, punch grafting, punch elevation, scar excision,or soft tissue fillers may be much more effective for scars and should be discussed with your cosmetic surgeon.

While chemical peels can not change pore size or remove broken blood vessels on the face, the procedure may improve the appearance of this conditions.

Cosmetic Dentistry

At Dubai cosmetic surgery we offer a full range of Cosmetic Dentistry services including whitening of teeth, Ceramic Veneers, restoration of teeth with tooth-colored restorations and metal free crown and Bridges in addition to dental arts and complete smile make over.

Teeth whitening

The most commonly prescribed cosmetic dental procedure; it has been used for many years for patients who desire a brighter smile. Many whitening options are now available to consumers, but Dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth. Hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is the most common active agent in the whitening products.

In Office whitening

It is a safe, effective and very fast way of whitening your teeth. It is very fast compared to the at home procedures, which usually takes few days. It is the perfect choice if you have a busy life style and looking for an immediate result

Zoom Technology

In Dubai Cosmetic Surgery, we offer zoom II technology. The zoom in office whitening system is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It's safe, effective and fast, very fast. In just one hour your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom whitening is ideal for any anyone looking for immediate result.

The convenience of Zoom in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.

The whitening process is effective on most discolored teeth. Darker stains, such as those Caused by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. Porcelain veneers can be the best choice for severe antibiotic discoloration. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth. Whitening will work on natural teeth only and not on false teeth.

At home Whitening

You may choose between day time application or night time (while you sleep). Night/day time application: It is a fast, safe and effective tooth whitening system. The whitening gel is a thick solution, which is dispensed to patients by a dentist and applied by the patient at home using a clear and inconspicuous custom filled tray. The delicious Peppermint Cream flavored gel is worn overnight, while you sleep for ultimate performance and maximum convenience. In only 10-14 nights, you can achieve exceptional whitening results.

For Cases not responding to teeth whitening or when a great degree of lightness is desirable…We offer another type of treatment that is the Porcelain Veneers

Veneers

An increasingly popular procedure, veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made laminates that are affixed directly to the teeth. They are a great option for closing gaps, improving size and shape of teeth or disguising discolored teeth that did not respond well to whitening procedures. Veneers are placed over the front teeth to change color shape of the teeth. Veneers are ideal for teeth that are too small, too big, or have uneven surfaces. It is very common for people to have imperfect teeth, either oddly shaped teeth, chipped teeth, crooked teeth, teeth with small holes in them, or an inappropriate sized tooth or teeth that have an odd appearance. Veneers solve such irregularities and create a durable and pleasing smile

Veneers can help you achieve the smile you want and give you the so beautiful Hollywood smile!

Teeth contouring and reshaping

Tooth reshaping, or contouring, is one of few instant treatments now available in cosmetic dentistry.  Dental reshaping and contouring is a procedure to correct crooked teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth or even overlapping teeth in just one session.

The dental contouring procedure can even be a substitute for braces under certain circumstances. It is also a procedure of subtle changes. A few millimeters of reduction and a few millimeters of tooth-colored laminate can create a beautiful smile when performed by a cosmetic dentist, with no discomfort to you. Tooth reshaping, or dental contouring, is commonly used to alter the length, shape or position of your teeth. After this, your cosmetic dentist will apply a bonding material and sculpt color and shape it to provide a pleasing result.

Bonding will lighten any stains you may have, close up minor gaps and can be used to correct crooked teeth. Basically, bonding will cover any natural flaws applying a thin coating of a plastic material on the front surface of your teeth.

Cosmetic treatment of the gum

Your gum tissue is like a frame that provides form and shape to the top of your tooth. A less than attractive smile results when the integrity of the gum is compromised or the actual gum between your teeth becomes weak. Usually due to poor hygiene (gum disease), you actually begin to lose gum tissue. Cosmetic dentistry provides many cosmetic solutions such as composite resin bonding, crowns, and veneers to create a great smile. These solutions are usually part of an overall strategy which may involve cosmetic gum surgery. Used to correct a 'gummy smile' (a significant portion of your gum is exposed when you smile), cosmetic gum surgery is the procedure of lengthening your teeth from the neck of the tooth upwards. Your teeth then appear to be longer and much less gum is seen when you smile.

The "Long in the Tooth" Smile - Cosmetic gum surgery, or periodontal plastic surgery, can correct almost any deformity or gingival problems preventing you from a beautiful smile. As we age, our gums may shrink and recede which makes our teeth look longer. While this is often age-related, it can also occur due to a bad bite. A cosmetic dentist or a periodontist can correct this to such an extent, that you'll have a very youthful appearing smile.

The "Gummy Smile" - This is a problem where your teeth appear to be too short. Gum sculpting is often the solution. To solve this, a dentist uses a laser to remove the excess tissue of your "gummy" smile, which then exposes more.

Tooth colored restorations

  • Most of us have had amalgam fillings (silver) or gold filling restorations. Some amalgam fillings were what we have called mercury fillings, as some amalgam fillings contained mercury. Metal fillings were effective, but very conspicuous and tended to blacken in color over time.
  • You can change your amalgam filling either by Composite filling or the so called the white filling or by lab made Ceramic Inlays and onlays
  • Composite resin dental fillings were created as an alternative to traditional metal dental fillings. Tooth fillings colored to look like a natural tooth are known as Composites are the solution for restoring decayed teeth, making cosmetic improvements and even changing the color of your teeth or the reshaping of teeth. Composite Resin Dental Fillings are made of a plastic dental resin. Composite Resin Dental Fillings are strong, durable, and make for a very natural looking smile. Many dental insurance plans cover their use.
  • For larger cavities especially on the molars and premolars Composite filling is not the treatment of choice, we need to construct Ceramic inlays and sometimes onlays.
  • Ceramic Inlay and Onlay is a lab made filling has exactly the same outline of the cavity prepared in the tooth made from porcelain. It has the advantage of being teeth colored restoration with extra durability.

Complete Smile make over

Complete smile make over is the procedure by which we make you full treatment plan to get you the so charm Hollywood smile. Sometimes it needs Orthodontic treatment along with Prosthodontic, periodontic, Cosmetic & gum surgery to get the best result!!

It takes artistic ability and extensive knowledge to get perfect smile design.Techniqes based on mouth shape, gum line lips and natural shape of the teeth. For this reason it takes time to precisely planning a smile design

In addition to the Cosmetic treatment we offer the following services:

Endodontic treatment (Root canal treatment)

Endodontic treatment is commonly known as "root canal". "Endo" is the Greek word for "inside" and "odont" is Greek for "tooth". Endodontic treatment treats the inside of the tooth. Endodontists are dental specialists in saving teeth who have completed advanced education in endodontic procedures. Because they are specialists, they dedicate their practice to Endodontics. They perform routine as well as difficult and very complex endodontic procedures, including endodontic surgery.

Many of us have heard the comparisons of painful things to the root canal procedure. It's not that bad. There are tiny canals within your tooth that may become infected. This leads to the pulp inside your tooth also becoming diseased. Either your dentist or an Endodontist to remove any infection performs the root canal procedure. The canals are then filled and the tooth receives either a filling or a crown. Crowns are more common in most cases as they add strength to the tooth itself.  The procedure itself takes one to two visits.

Aims of Root Canal treatment

  • Relief of pain, if present
  • Removal of pulp from root(s) of tooth
  • Disinfection of root and surrounding bone; this phase may take several appointments if infection is severe.
  • Complete filling of root canals
  • Root canal treatment is an attempt to retain a tooth which may otherwise require extraction. Although root canal therapy has a high degree of success ( over 90%), it cannot be guaranteed.

Dubai Cosmetic Surgery offers high Standard root canal treatment using up-to-date technology.

Endodontic microscope

Powered by 12 -16 x-magnifications and digital camera with screened display.
The scope is used to locate a microscopic opening, or additional root canal, that other wise could not be seen with naked eye. Surgical microscope in difficult cases of re-treatment and in surgical cases.

Digital Apex Locator

The tip is located with digital accuracy with the Apex Locator Locating the tip (apex) of the root is a must, since it is essential to keep the filling material contained within the root anatomy.  Automized system for root canal shaping, cleaning and preparation Picture

  • Laser for disinfecting the canals
  • Laser light is known of its bactericidal/ virocidal effect.
  • Laser fiber can deliver the light energy to the narrow ad distant ends of the roots
  • Laser light can reach where no other endodontic cleaning instrument can reach.
  • Laser infection fighting capability is best demonstrated in cases of flare ups or persistent infection subsequent to resistant bacterial strain

Computerized Digital Radiography

(CDR) to take SAFER, BETTER, FASTER, AND SMARTER X-rays of your mouth. CDR X-rays produce 60% less radiation and are environmentally friendly. Images can be recalled instantly, magnified (up to 300x), colorized, and reverse-contrasted. Because CDR can reveal more than regular film, doctors can make more precise diagnoses and provide better care.

Replacement of missing teeth

Missing teeth may be replaced by fixed prosthesis, dental Implants or Removable prosthesis.

A dental bridge is a false tooth, known as a pontic, which is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place that are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.

In areas of your mouth that are under less stress, such as your front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space. Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech. Bridges require your commitment to serious oral hygiene, but will last as many ten years or more. Dental bridges may contain high precious, semiprecious or non precious alloys such as gold, silver palladium, and nickel chromium alloys.

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin which at times incorporate porcelain or metal for additional structural support. There are two main types of dentures. Both Complete Dentures and Partial Dentures are finely crafted, custom-fitted. If you properly maintain your dentures they will appear natural and provide a perfect smile. Additionally, dentures help strengthen muscles controlling your expressions that require the support of your teeth, rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing teeth and aid with chewing. Some times the dentures can be made covering few remaining sound teeth after endodontic treatment of those teeth the matter that increase the denture retention, cause less bone resorption of residual ridges and maintain the patient properioception. This type of treatment called overdentures

Dental Implants

Dental implants are fixtures of titanium which are surgically screwed into your jaw bone. The implant is an anchor for a naturally-appearing false tooth or a set of false teeth. The success rate of dental implants depends on where the implants are placed and their purpose. They are typically best placed in the front portion of your lower jaw. Implants are great for replacing missing teeth. It is important that you have enough bone in the area of the missing teeth for the implants to be attached to. Implants are not only used to replace one tooth, but rather people missing most, if not all, of their teeth benefit greatly as well. Implants are increasingly being used to replace certain types of bridges and removable partial dentures.
